Wormsley

Wormsley - Stokenchurch

Home to the family of the late Sir Paul Getty (KBE), Wormsley is a 2,700-acre estate set in the Chiltern Hills encompassing a 18th century family home and numerous outbuildings, including an exquisite purpose-built library housing an unparalleled collection of works dating from the 7th century through to the 20th century

With benefit of being a long time service provider and the unique position of having engineer’s with over 17 years’ worth of experience of the property and its systems, Palcon Energy Services Ltd was able to provide detailed guidance to the Wormsley Estate Department, together with a roadmap to carrying out an extensive refurbishment of the control systems with minimal impact.

With a scope to provide a ‘scalable’ solution that would allow for future upgrade and expansion of not only to the main house and library, but to the estate as a whole, the existing obsolete Cylon Unitron 2000 controllers were replaced with a new Trend IQ4 based system.

Installation of a new CAT5e ethernet infrastructure allowed a number of local outstation panels fitted within the house to provide individual room temperature controls by means of zoned radiators, with occupants able to set desired comfort levels for each area.

The library and a separate secure archive strong-room are both environmentally-controlled via dedicated air handling units providing temperature and humidity control compliant with the British Standard 5454:2000 with the latter achieved using advanced moisture-level control routines incorporated into the control software.

The system is fitted with a Trend 963 Server complete with remote access to provide the onsite engineering team instant access to the system from any location with critical alarms delivered via email to mobile devices allowing immediate response to any potential issues.

Further expansion of the system has seen the addition of a new Airdale Chiller interfaced directly via BACnet/IP and energy and utility monitoring of a number of remote buildings. The recent addition of ‘Lower Vicars’, one of the many properties on the site onto the Trend system following another successful refurbishment, proves that the solution delivered by Palcon Energy Services Ltd, is a truly scalable one that the estate can build upon going forward into the future.
